Established in 2005, Zero Emissions Platform (ZEP) is the official advisor to the European Union on industrial carbon management. We aim to accelerate its deployment to help achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and net negative emissions after that, with a particular focus on the following technologies and infrastructure:
- Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
- Carbon Capture and Utilisation (where CO2 is stored in a manner intended to be permanent)
- Bio-Carbon Capture and Storage (BioCCS)
- Direct Air Capture with Carbon Storage
ZEP runs the European Technology and Innovation Platform (ETIP) for industrial carbon management funded by Horizon 2020 under the European SET-Plan, and collaborates closely with various services of the European Commission on several common deliverables.
Our fact- and science-based policy advice and technical work builds on a broad, diverse member base, ranging from energy producers and industrial companies to infrastructure and equipment providers, environmental NGOs, research and academic organisations, and trade unions. ZEP functions as the epicentre of the industrial carbon management community in Europe. By fielding input from scientific, commercial development and civil society members, we enable all stakeholders with an interest in industrial carbon management to shape EU policymaking.
