ZEP is pleased to announce the appointment of Joop Hazenberg as its new Secretary-General, succeeding to Per-Olof Granström, who concluded his tenure after 4 successful years at ZEP. In parallel to his role with ZEP, Joop has been appointed by the Carbon Capture and Storage Association as the new EU Director.

Joop Hazenberg is an experienced senior executive specialised in European energy and climate policies. He has previously acted as EU correspondent for a range of international media, campaign manager for European NGOs on the phase-out of coal power plants, and Director External Affairs at the GSMA, representing the mobile telecommunications industry in Europe. He also worked for the European Heat Pump Association and represented SolarPower Europe and WindEurope on the topic of corporate renewable energy sourcing. He has also authored six books, with his latest book dealing on climate action (including a chapter on CCS and DAC).

In his capacity as Secretary-General, Joop will be at the forefront of ZEP’s mission to develop and deploy CCS and CCU technologies at scale across Europe.

“I am excited to start this dual role as CCS and CCU are key technologies to clean up the carbon emissions that we cannot avoid in the foreseeable future. ZEP is working hard towards massive deployment of large-scale CO2 storage in the next decade.” – Joop Hazenberg, ZEP Secretary-General
