Zero Emissions Platform will become Carbon Management Europe
Brussels, 3 December 2025 – As the Zero Emissions Platform (ZEP) marks its 20th anniversary, the Advisory Council today agreed that the organisation will adopt a new name: Carbon Management Europe (CME). The decision reflects how ZEP’s work has evolved over two decades and strengthens alignment with its mission, ensuring the organisation continues to grow and remain recognisable while maintaining full continuity in its role and purpose.
Over the past 20 years, ZEP has expanded its scope and technical expertise to cover the full carbon management value chain. Originally derived from “Zero Emissions Fossil Fuel Power Plants”, the name “Zero Emissions Platform” no longer reflects this core focus on CO₂ capture, transport, use, removal and storage. At the same time, the need emerged for a name that makes the organisation more recognisable to external stakeholders by adopting the terminology used by the European Commission: industrial carbon management.
Changing our name to Carbon Management Europe reflects how far we have come and where we need to go. This evolution better reflects our current mission: making carbon management an integral, reliable part of Europe’s climate, industrial and energy strategy. Carbon Management Europe captures our commitment to delivering real emission reductions, permanent removals and competitive, future-proof European industries. – Eve Tamme, Chair, ZEP/CME.
The Advisory Council’s decision follows extensive reflection on how best to support the organisation’s continued growth and effectiveness. Despite the new name, the organisation’s mission, vision and strategy remain unchanged. CME will continue to provide trusted, science-based policy and technical advice to EU institutions and stakeholders, supporting the development and deployment of industrial carbon management solutions essential for achieving climate neutrality in Europe.
After 20 years of providing expert advice, we’re updating our name to reflect the value we deliver to Europe’s carbon management community. Carbon Management Europe is a new brand, not a new direction: our mission, our work, and our commitment remain the same -Eadbhard Pernot, Secretary General, ZEP/CME.
A phased transition will ensure clarity and continuity for partners and stakeholders. The name change will become effective in Q2 2026, coinciding with the launch of the new version of ZEP’s website. Other elements of ZEP’s brand identity, refreshed in 2025, will remain unchanged to ensure consistency and continuity throughout the organisation.
As part of the 20th anniversary, CME will also launch a year-long series of activities celebrating two decades of collaboration and progress in carbon management. These celebrations will continue seamlessly under the new name, underscoring the organisation’s legacy.
