Paving the way for decarbonised Industry with Carbon Capture and Storage

On 26 October, ZEP co-hosted an EU Sustainable Energy Day event with Fortum Oslo Värme, Bellona, and the City of Oslo as part of EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2021. The high-level panel discussion was moderated by the ZEP Chairman and featured policymakers and representatives from industry and civil society:

  • Amund Vik, State Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, Norwegian Government
  • Vegar Andersen, Deputy Vice Mayor for Business Development and Public Ownership of the City of Oslo
  • Liv Monica Stubholt, Chair of the Board of Fortum Oslo Varme
  • Winston Beck, Director Government Affairs EU at HeidelbergCement
  • Ana Šerdoner, Policy Manager at Bellona Europa

The discussion covered the potential of CCS within Europe and how it can contribute to reaching Europe’s net zero emissions goal by 2050, with a focus on decarbonisation of industry and hard-to-abate sectors with CCS, with examples of CCS projects in the cement and waste-to-energy sectors in Europe. Topics such as the importance of developing CO2 transport and storage infrastructure, public support, and knowledge-sharing and cooperation between the EU and governments were addressed.
