South-Korea's CCS roadmap

Representatives of the Korea Environment Corporation (KECO) presented South-Korea's CCS Roadmap at the ZEP Advisory Council meeting of December 2012. The government of South-Korea aims to store 10-50 million tons of CO2 annually. The presentation of the roadmap can be downloaded below.

Romania CCS Event Statement & Agenda

The crucial role of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in meeting European Union and global climate targets cost-effectively - and the need for successful EU demonstration projects and government support - was underscored on September 6, in Bucharest, Romania, at a high-level meeting and public workshop entitled “CCS: a key technology for a low-carbon European economy.”

Initiated and attended by ZEP, the GCCSI and the Bellona Foundation, the high-level meeting welcomed senior Romanian government officials, including the representatives of the Ministry of Public Finance, Ministry of Economy, Trade and the Business Environment and Romanian Parliament.

There was universal agreement that CCS is now on a critical path in the EU, with successful CCS demonstration projects required to make the business case that will deliver commercially viable CCS by the 2020s, and widespread deployment by 2030. A statement was agreed to by the key stakeholders attending the high-level meeting and can be found below along with the programme for the event.

NER300 CCS Project Ranking Update (July 2012)

This European Commission staff working document published on July 12, 2012, takes stock of the state of play of the first call for proposals under the EU´s NER300 funding programme, one of the world´s largest funding programmes for innovative low carbon energy commercial demonstration projects and a key component of the EU´s strategy to tackle climate change. The document also highlights the importance of the NER300 funding programme as one of the EU´s major policy initiatives to stimulate low-carbon growth and employment across the EU. Specifically, the document ranks the current CCS projects that have applied for NER300 funding, including two reserve list projects.

Rotterdam Climate Initiative presentation at ZEP AC 30

The Rotterdam Climate Initiative is making progress with its CCS infrastructure development. The FID for the ROAD project is expected in the next couple of months. Mr. Van Tongeren of the RCI presented its vision and way of working to the ZEP AC earlier this year. The ZEP AC applauded the RCI as an excellent example of integration and synergies among partners. Special attention was given to the fact that when CO2 is transported for use in greenhouses, public acceptation has been proven to be high. Download the presentation below.
